        The 'audit' group was added to support the new auditing functionality
        in the base system.  Be sure to follow the directions for updating,
        including the requirement to run mergemaster -p.

うーん、id:TransFreeBSD さんの http://d.hatena.ne.jp/TransFreeBSD/20060204/p1 の記述が関係しているのかな*1？ とりあえず

# grep audit /usr/src/etc/group >> /etc/group

して、後はいつもどおりに行けました。

*1:mtree/BSD.bar.dist の cvs コミットログ にありますね。とりあえず RELENG_6 に、ということみたいですが 6.1-RELEASE に入るのかなぁ...
